Boys Being Boys

Noah normally likes loud noises.  He would dance when we turned on the blender.  He would chase around the vacuum cleaner.  He would smile broadly when we ran the garbage disposal.  Motorcycles/fire engines/police cars are his favorite parts of a parade...

One day about a month ago, though, it was time to change the batteries in the smoke detectors.  When we put the new batteries in and it beeped loudly, Noah ran, covering his ears, very obviously on the verge of a major meltdown.  He hasn't quite appreciated loud noises the same, ever since.

So, when we had a thunderstorm the other day, it wasn't a BIG surprise when Noah's bottom lip started to quiver as he said, "I don't like thunder!"  A certain uncle of Noah's used to not like thunderstorms, so Noah's Dada decided to try to cut that fear off before it had a chance to form.  What better way than taking something scary, and turning it into something super cool?

After a few hesitant glances from Mama, first a quick dash up and down the driveway in the rain...

Then some significant jumping in a puddle at the end of the driveway for a minute or two...

And then some jumping/stomping/dancing/marching/splashing for as long as Dada could stand it!

And what did Noah say when he came inside?  "Noah likes thunder!"  Mission accomplished!
