Bahrain!

Photo-journalism at its finest: lots of pictures of a cute kiddo to describe our most recent adventure!

Cool Koala backpack? Check!  Ready to go!

The brown-track-suit kiddo climbing over the brown-blob-guy at the Amsterdam airport

Army men? What a cool plane toy!

The plane didn't crash, but Noah did...

The best part of the trip? Playmates!

Mmmmm... sand!

National Evangelical Church

The hospital right next door

Mainly music

Play play play...

One of the preferred activities in 110 degree heat: pool time!

Bahrain had some impressive skyscrapers

Some had pictures of royalty...

Some had cryptic messages

Some were half-finished...

Cultural Center

World Trade Center - the windmills in the center were supposed to power the building... we were told, however, the first time they let them rotate, though, the windows from the top five stories of the buildings all came crashing down... oops.  Good idea, but it didn't work out.

There were lots of old housing buildings near where we stayed.

The Grand Mosque

Courtyard in the Grand Mosque

Handblown light fixtures in the Grand Mosque

Bahrain Fort

Why not ride horses at a fort?

Super old fort in the foreground. Super new buildings in the background

Not everything was unfamiliar...

Most things were in English and Arabic

Noah loved his Little Caesar's pasta

Noah's Pop-pop would love it here!

We didn't get a blizzard or pizza, but I was tempted...

All the modern conveniences, really!

But some things were less familiar - the souq!

The souq is the outdoor market

Lots of places to get delicious fresh juice to cool you on a hot day!

The Arab ladies loved our little boy

And the shop keepers sometimes gave him treats, too!

Cures for a wide range of maladies, as described in the Bahrain National Museum

I just liked the description... "Foul Sewer"

Random boat, probably hasn't seen water in awhile

Note the graffiti.  I didn't do it!

There was an impressive showing of law enforcement... police every 1/4 mile on the highway...

Never moving, but ever-present

Pictures of the king everywhere...

Graffitti, which had been painted over

A main intersection, shut-down completely because it's a popular gathering place

Some people have Bahraini national pride

Or just a love for hats

Bahrain has a Formula One track... and a super awesome go-kart track!

These little carts go about 50-60mph!

Fire retardant suits, helmets, gloves... it was the real deal!

JPE Day went international!  Complete with a Baskin Robbins ice cream cake!

Followed by a fancy dinner without the kiddos

A Bahraini park... the action didn't really get started until about 7 or 8pm!

And when all else fails, pool time again!

Story time!

National Evangelical Church

Dates were plentiful

Noah sort of learned how to hula hoop

The school

Graduation

The king's camel farm

He has more than 600 camels

1-week-old camel... so big!

A day at the beach!

Snorkeling!

And... exhaustion!
