Funny kiddo #11

Noah, standing under a sign at the playground that says "General Store": This is a General Store.  Would you like to buy anything, girl?
His cousin, obviously sounding disappointed: My name's Ellia, Noah! Don't you remember??

Funny kiddo #9

Noah, looking at my Cheerios: That's what I had for breakfast, too!  Does yours have milk in it?
Me: Yup!
N: Why doesn't it not have milk in it?

Funny kiddo #7

Noah: I want to be a girl like Ellia.
Me: Oh really? Why's that?
Noah: Then I could do fun things... Like ride things! And get squirted by a dragon!

Funny kiddo #3

One day I was serenaded the whole car ride home from Ferndale...

"The farmer and the dell" slowly morphed into
"The farmer and the wall" and then
"The farmer nod the whale"...
"The farmer and the bread"...
"... And the yellow"...
"... And the blue/red/all the different colors/black"...
"... And the harp"

Funny kiddo #2

Noah sees a greeting card with the picture above on it on our table.  He picks it up.  He stares at it hard.  He slowly carries it over to me.
Noah: Is this a picture of me?
Me: What do you think?
Noah: Yes!
Me: Does it look like you?
Noah: Yes!  It's me!

Funny kiddo #1

So, Noah makes us laugh.  I'll share a series of comments/conversations so that he can make you laugh, too.

One day, after going to the doctor's office, he asked Libby if she needed to look in his ears.
Libby: Your doctor already did!
Noah: How did they look?
L: Okay.
N: Okay?!?!  Not great or fabulous or wonderful?!?

And she's off!

The time of having a sweet, innocent, immobile baby has come to an end...  Amaya has progressed to actually being able to make progress when crawling, rather than pushing herself backwards.  What does that mean?  Re-babyproofing the house...  constant supervision... baby gates get closed again...  Things just got kicked up a notch in terms of taking care of Amaya!

Amaya is 6 months!

Here is a sneak peek of our recent visit to Savannah... And our 6 month old baby girl!!

She recently weighed in at 15 lb 2 oz and measured 26.5 inches!

Woohoo!

What could be more exciting than underwear?  Finally, that's the question on the elder Egle child's mind!

Before Amaya was born, Noah had ALMOST made it to being fully potty trained.  His rebellion when she was born, though, came in the form of potty training regression... All the way back to diapers.

The picture above is just outside his bedroom door overnight last night: his big boy underwear that he and his mother laid out, ready for him to put on in the morning!  10 days recently with no accidents, and he's earned the right to try big boy underwear!  I'm honestly not sure who's more excited - Noah or his parents - but it's a happy day nonetheless... Certainly worthy of a blog post!

Computer woes have besieged the blog, and we haven't posted in months... All are well, though. We are working on the computer issues.  More pictures/posts to come soon!

Interesting Amaya Facts

She's only a week old, but it's time to start studying up on the blog's newest star... You want to be a true groupie, don't you?

* "Amaya" has Japanese origins, meaning "night rain." This is a nod to her 1/8th Japanese background, and the Japanese side of the family.  It also has Hebrew origins, meaning "close to God."

* Before leaving the hospital, she had lost weight from 6lbs 15oz to 6 lbs, 7 oz.  (This is normal and expected.). Most babies take some time to get back to their birthweight.  Four days later, though, she was already 7lbs. 5oz!  (In terms of percentage body weight, this would be the equivalent of someone going from 150lbs on Monday to 139 lbs by Wednesday, and then back up to 170lbs by Saturday!)

* "Rose" is Libby's middle name.

* She has a small patch of light-colored/blonde hair behind her left ear.

* "Amaya" rhymes with "papaya," which 50% of Noah's parents believe was his first word.
* Amaya is a drama queen, producing tears (not just wimpy cries) at the drop of a hat.

Meet Amaya Rose!

August 29, 2013, our blog got a new co-star... Just after midnight, after forty-one weeks of anticipation, Amaya Rose emerged!

After a smooth induction for being so late, baby came out just fine, and Mama did spectacularly!  As the baby was halfway out, Libby asked the doctor whether the baby had lots of hair... She does!

After a relaxing 1 1/2 day hospital stay, they came home.  Dada had to work for the first couple days, but tried his best (with limited success) to minimize his hours.  Now, the whole family is home together for a week, as Dada's vacation begins!

So far, Amaya is asserting a different personality from Noah.  She seems to eat just as much, but she doesn't seem to stop moving when she's awake - a far cry from Noah's bump-on-a-log strategy.

She seems to be sleeping okay... For now, Libby's done the lion's share of getting up at night, so I must sheepishly admit that she could tell you better than I...

She has really beautiful big eyes... Dark colored... Gray, maybe? Hard to say...

She wants to eat everything... Her hand... Dada's finger... The blanket... Anything remotely close to her face.

She has a powerful cry.  It seems to always mean the same thing, though:  I'm hungry!  And then, Viola! Calm, happy (often asleep) baby, once again!

Libby has already enjoyed dressing her up in cute girls clothes... Though she's been disappointed that all of the dresses we have are way too big for a newborn size,   She is a tiny little peanut! 6lbs, 15oz at birth, 20in.
